The Preludio Before it Was

The Preludio Before it Was is a moto perpetuo showpiece for solo violin, directly inspired by Bach's E-major Partita BWV1006 (also for solo violin).
Similarities between the two works include long string-crossing chordal passages, and a comparable use of legato and detaché passages. However, Salecich uses Bach's work only as a cornerstone and has used his own musical syntax and an orthography reminiscent of Bartók (see also Variations for solo flute for other uses of this technique). In the absence of a tonal anchor, intervallic patterns are used in The Preludio Before it Was as points of reference e.g. the intervals of the opening passage.
This lively work is violinistic in style and ideal for displaying a brilliant and clean tone.
In other ways, Salecich's work Supernova for violin and percussion is another moto perpetuo that uses extensive string-crossing passages and broken arpeggios.
